Health Care management careers span a variety of administrative and managerial positions throughout the Health Care system. The following organizations staff Health Care management personnel:

  • Clinics; consulting firms; Health Care associations; hospitals; insurance companies; nursing homes; mental health organizations; public health departments, rehabilitation centers; universities; and research institutions.

Health Care management professionals often begin their careers in one of the following areas:

  • Government relations; human resources; information systems; marketing and public affairs; material management (purchasing of equipment and supplies); medical staff relations; nursing administration; patient care services; and planning and development.

Seasoned Health Care management professionals serve as department heads, vice presidents, and executive officers. Many earn in excess of $100,000 annually.

Educational Requirements

A bachelor's degree is sufficient for some entry- and mid-level Health Care management positions; however, a post-graduate degree is generally required for managerial positions in Health Care.
