Iridology Studies
FYI - Iridology Studies
Iridology is an established, yet controversial form of health assessment employed by natural health practitioners. Iridology and iridology studies involves the examination of the iris, specifically its structure and pigmentation, as means of evaluating physical and emotional health.
Developed initially by physicians in Hungary and Sweden, and further refined by American doctor Bernard Jensen, iridology certification is currently in a state of evolution, being transformed by new research, centered largely in Europe, and digital technology.
Though the system of assessment upon which iridology is based is changing with time, the general practice remains the same. Practitioners evaluate inherited and emerging strengths and weaknesses in the body and its organ systems by analyzing different markings and colorations in various sectors of the iris. These events in the iris reveal the type and location of current and future health concerns.
The International Iridology Practitioners Association provides this definition:
"[Iridology] identifies inherited dispositions (how our body reacts to our environment and what symptoms are most likely to occur), risks (what areas or organ systems are more likely to have symptoms) and future challenges (where we are likely to have more problems as we age). Iridology helps identify inherited emotional patterns, which can create or maintain physical symptoms, as well as identify lessons or challenges and gifts or talents available to us."
While licensure for iridology is not offered in North America, iridology studies and certification can be pursued at a number of high-quality natural health colleges throughout the world, including the United States, Canada, and Australia. Iridology associations, such as the IIPA, accredit many of these programs.
Also, note that iridology courses and classes offered through accredited natural health schools are generally longer and more comprehensive than those available via seminar, and thus preferable.
